50's Smile and Adventures in Linux

Hi everyone. Wow has it been a while! I've been doing a lot in the past 6 months. Not art, so much, but mostly studying for my A+ examination which I've taken and passed :) I've also been dabbling around a lot with Linux. I'm actually running it as my primary OS at the moment which leads me to my paintings. Since Ubuntu Linux comes with Gimp I decided I'd give it a real go as a painting program. It's got some quirks here and there but overall it seems very able as a painting/illustration package. I've had fun using it and have created some satisfactory work.

The first one above was one of the first things I created in Gimp. I didn't have anything in particular in mind, just let the wacom pen flow. I added what I thought it needed to make it look complete then called it done. The second I just finished tonight. I've been wanting to try a pin-up style, so I took the opportunity to do so. I did not have any pose in mind (note the strange pose) but I think it came out good overall. The 50's Smile title is in reference to the pin-up character. Her hair-do is from the 50's era and she's smiling so...yeah.
